- Talia

“Pregnancy has been an amazing experience for me and I didn’t want my second to be any less special than my first, so to celebrate and document this special time, I decided to have a stylized fine art maternity session with Bella Vita Creative.  The truth is, I did this session for myself and my unborn child. Thank you for being such a creative and wonderful photographer, and capturing even more than I had hoped for!”

“This was one of the best experiences that I’ve had. Dana truly brought my vision to life.”

- Kelsey

“We had Dana take some family portraits as a surprise for my parents. They turned out lovely! It can be awkward to know how to position yourself, but Dana does a great job of giving clear instructions in a caring manner to make sure your pictures come out looking natural and accentuating all your good features.”

“Looking for a photographer who cares deeply about the quality and the experience of your special moment? Dana is the one!”

- Cathy

“Dana really listens, and was able to capture my children as I see them while turning them into art. It was exactly what I wanted.  Her love for her work is obvious, as is her giftedness with the camera. Dana is professional, reliable, and gives great attention to detail. Even the packaging of our products was beautiful and thoughtful.”

“Dana recorded and preserved memories of my kids that touched my heart...made me tear up and smile at the same time.”

- Ariel

"Dana's craft, skill, and technique; her customer service and product...each aspect is par excellence. Nowhere else will one find such attention to detail. She has given me beautiful art of my family, as well as maternity photos and portraits of my children."

"Each aspect of Bella Vita's photography is par excellence."

Every Photo Session Is a Creative and Fun Experience That You’ll Enjoy – I Promise.

Creating images that you’ll be excited to share with family and friends, display proudly in your home, and leave as a legacy to your family is much easier than you might think...

We’ll hop on the phone together (or online, if you like), so we can discuss the kind of session you want and how you envision displaying your images.

We'll talk about things like, what colors are you drawn to? How do you want to see these priceless images 5, 10, 20 years from now? Asking these questions at the start always results in a session that gives you exactly what you dreamed of - a photographic treasure.

This no-commitment consultation is your opportunity to learn more about the process. When you have decided on your session type, your session fee and signed agreement will secure your date.

Step One: Your Complimentary Initial Consultation

After your session is booked, we will set up your Style Consultation - done online, via video, or in person, depending on your session type and location.  I’ll learn about you and your family so that I can personalize our photo session to capture your vision and the unique personalities of those who are being photographed.

We will discuss wardrobe, hair and makeup, and whether you opt for a magazine-style studio look or a more natural or urban location. I’ll give you tips to help you make the most of your session so that you will feel like a million bucks on the day of the shoot!

Every session is custom designed just for you.

Step Two: Your Style Consultation

On the day of the portrait session, I’ll come prepared with a plan (and plenty of excitement).  Depending on the type of session you've selected, you may enjoy a full professional makeover complete with hair and makeup.

During the portrait session, you will be guided through flattering poses that will make you look incredible.
Many clients comment that they can’t believe how fast the session goes because they are having so much fun. Before you know it, I’ll have captured images that you’ll cherish for years to come!

Next up: we will set a date for next step - your reveal!

Step Three: Your Portrait Session

After your portrait session, I will hand-pick the very best portraits and custom edit them. On the day of the reveal (usually about two or three weeks following your session), you will see your images for the first time.

There is no minimum purchase requirement, and you only purchase what you love. I’ll help you choose the perfect products for you - from museum quality wall art to gorgeous heirloom reveal boxes, professional prints, beautiful albums, and digital collections.  Every purchased image comes with a corresponding high resolution digital file.

(Note that with the current COVID situation, this can be done via a video call.)

Step Four: The Reveal (This Is My Favorite Part!)

Your beautiful images arrive!

Whenever possible, I deliver your final art in person. Your portraits will be ready to hang or beautifully displayed in an album or folio box of your choice.

Step Five: Delivery Day

In a nutshell, fine art photography is not limited to an exact representation of the subject before the camera (such as in photojournalism), but is an image made into an art piece. The original straight-out-of-camera image may go through many iterations before the final image is complete. My Heirloom Images are reminiscent of the “painterly” style of the Old Masters painters. Clients tell me that they love the aesthetic of my timeless and romantic photography.

Many people schedule a portrait session because of a special event happening in their lives, whether it be a graduation, engagement, new baby, Christmas, Mother’s or Father’s Day, Sweet 16, Quinceanera, or a family reunion. Any event is worth celebrating with portraits!

However, you don’t really need an upcoming event to preserve your beautiful family memories. Last year, I scheduled a portrait session for myself to celebrate a benchmark birthday and to have as a legacy gift to leave for my grandchildren. One day when they are grown, they will look at those gorgeous portraits and be able to say, “That’s my Grandma Dana!” These images are more precious to me than I can say.

I have lots of experience with making photo shoots comfortable (and even fun) for little ones, teenagers, and husbands who are shy or might not like to sit still for too long.

I always arrive at every session with a plan to get the best shots and have a knack for helping you feel relaxed as you pose. And as a mom and grandmother, I always bring enough games and encouragement to make the session fly by painlessly. When little ones are being photographed, I get the important images done first so that mom can relax for the rest of the session. And if your little one is just not having it, we’ll take a break or do something fun and move on. I’ve got you.

No, but if you knew how great I can make you look, you might want to be. ;) I have an eye for flattering angles and can work wonders in post-production so that you look like I captured you on your very best day. The result will be photos that even the most camera-shy mom will be eager to share with her friends and family. I’ll also help you pick your wardrobe and find talented hair and makeup artists. Please remember that one day your children will look for photos of you…what will they find? Let’s chat on our call, and I’ll guide you every step of the way.

This is a legitimate question and one that almost every woman feels, including myself. Before I had my own portrait session last year, I came up with every excuse in the book not to follow through because I didn’t think I looked “whatever” enough.

But then I remembered how we couldn’t find photos of my mother the week she passed away. She rarely posed for any professional photos and all of the snapshots were blurry or just not suitable for her obituary. I honestly felt a pain in my heart not to have made more of an effort to ensure we had family photos with her in them.

I want to create the best images you’ve ever seen of yourself so that when your children go to look for pictures of you, they will find a legacy of your life in images. Your children will not remember what dress size you wore, only your smiling countenance and how you made them feel as you held them.

I understand this feeling as well. When I scheduled my own portrait session, I actually felt guilty spending money on myself, until I reminded myself what I was getting in return.

Photography is one of the few investments that actually grows in value over time. Think about it. Most of us spend money on experiences that are over within an hour or two. There’s nothing wrong with that! (I have my own guilty pleasures, believe me.)

But when it comes to portraits of our family, we often don’t realize how important it will be to us in five, ten, or twenty years. I can’t tell you the number of clients who have come back to me years after their sessions and told me how they look at their portraits every day and how much it means to them. I’m not even sure you can put a value on that kind of thing. You are worth it!

I’m based in Mount Vernon, Washington, and work with clients throughout the greater Seattle area, including clients who come from out of state who travel to the Pacific Northwest. For outdoor sessions, I’ll suggest locations with stunning backgrounds, or work with you to plan a shoot for a specific location with sentimental meaning. For studio photography, sessions will be held in Mount Vernon unless prior arrangements are made to work elsewhere.

Yes. In addition to my years of experience capturing engagement, maternity, family, senior, and children’s images, I have extensive experience photographing on-location and studio headshots and personal branding images.

Although I no longer offer wedding photography, I do offer gorgeous engagement, anniversary, and couples’ sessions, and am happy to do a post-wedding session to celebrate your new marriage!

Yes, every print image you buy will include a high resolution digital. Best of both worlds!

That said, If you are going to invest in capturing beautiful portraits of your family, please don’t stop with “just the digitals.” Your family deserves more than that.
